INTRODUCTION:
" Nothing is certain in this life except Death"
" Death is the final destination".
I am always interested to know about "Death". When I found a book on the topic" Life is, Death is not" , in the library, I picked it up, read the preface and found it interested to gather the views of various notable writers on "Death". The editor of this book "Satjit Wadva" initiated to edit and compile this book because she saw many deaths of her loved ones in her life and had an urge to know about this unexplained phenomenon of physical disappearance after death. She went through many philosophies of the world on death and complied them in this book.
The first part of the book describes various religious beliefs according to Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Sikhism, Islam, Sufism and Osho about "Death".And the second part of the book comprises of the personal views and experiences of noted writers such as Khushwant Singh, Kahlil Gibran, Mirza Ghalib, Imroz, Amrita Pritam, etc.
According to Hindu philosophy on "Death" unfolds that "Death" is the moment when our eternal soul changes its bodily clothes. Old body is left and discarded and new body is adopted and this cyclic moment goes on unless the soul attains its spiritual awakening and merges into its ultimate source of energy, which is God. According to Sikhism, it is a celeberation of the moment when Soul meets its true husband i. e."God". This attainment leads to complete happiness.
In the second part Khushwant Singh writes about his narrow escape from death in his article" Be Prepares". He recalls Allama Iqbal's lines:
" Bagh-e-bahist se mejhey hukm-e-safar diya tha kyon,
Kaar-e-jahaan daraz hai ab mera intezaar kar"
Kushwant Singh says that be prepared for death in your ending days of life. In the second "Posthumous" article he portrays an imaginary funeral that will follow his death, disconnecting him from the bond of all relations.
Osho one of my favourite philosopher and spiritual leader says that "we are so much attached with our body, that we fear death. We need to understand that this physical body is perishable and mortal, but we need to attach ourselves with the one who is immortal and going to hold us in his realm."He says that through meditation we can liberate our body from the clutches of life and death and attain a blissful union with one and only the pure form of energy which is God.This is Moksha! The fear of life and death will never chase the spiritual souls.
This book has ignited the spiritual curiosity in me and helped me to know about the truth of life and death. I am sure the intellectual contents of the notable writers will definitely transform the youth and make them concious about the science of the soul.
